Bolangir: Residents of Antarla village under Deogaon police station in Bolangir district woke up to a cold-blooded murder, when they discovered the lifeless body of a woman, who was allegedly killed by her drunk husband with an axe while she was asleep Tuesday night.
The accused, identified as Gautam Biswal, 41, was arrested by Deogaon police and produced before the court Wednesday. Addressing a presser, Additional SP Alok Jena said, “Gautam, a daily wager from Antarla had married Amulyaa Biswal, 35, of Arda village under Tarabha police station in Subarnapur district around 14 years ago. The couple had two children.” Gautam often consumed alcohol and frequently quarreled with his wife, leading to prolonged domestic disputes, he said. “Tuesday night, while Amulyaa was asleep, Gautam allegedly attacked her with an axe, killing her on the spot,” Jena added.
The crime came to light when neighbours spotted Amulyaa’s body in her house Wednesday morning. On being informed, Deogaon police visited the spot and initiated an investigation. A scientific team also conducted a forensic examination of the area and seized the axe used in the crime. Amulyaa’s brother, Kandarpa Mallik, has alleged that Gautam had been physically abusing his sister for a long time and eventually killed her. The victim’s body was handed over to her family members after a post-mortem was conducted at Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital. Police have registered a case and further investigation is in progress.
