Bhubaneswar, Feb 13: Ace sprinters Dutee Chand and Amiya Mallick finished third to bag bronze medals in the women’s and the men’s 200 metres events of the National Games at Thiruvananthapuram, Friday.
Pre-race favourite Dutee was stunned by local girls Santhini V and Anilda Thomas. Santhini (24.11s) bagged the gold while Thomas (24.41s) finished with the silver. Dutee who clocked 24.56 seconds had to be satisfied with the bronze. Srabani Nanda however, had a poor outing and finished seventh.
In the men’s race, Amiya Mallick clocked 21.57 seconds to finish with the bronze. Earlier Amiya had bagged a silver medal in the 100 metres.
Meanwhile the Orissa eves finished third in the 4x100m relay. The state relay team comprising of Dutee Chand, Purnima Hembram, Jauna Murmu and Srabani Nanda clocked 3: 46.51 seconds to finish third. Hosts Kerala won gold with a timing of 3:45.26 seconds, while Tamil Nadu with a time 3: 46.29 seconds bagged the silver medal.
