Bhubaneswar: Ace sprinter Dutee Chand had a disastrous day Tuesday at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Birmingham as she failed to qualify for the semifinals of the women’s 100m event. Dutee Chand finished fourth in Heat No. 5 of the first round and bowed out of the event. Dutee clocked 11.55 seconds in the race.
Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidad and Tobago, Tynia Gaither of the Bahamas and Joy Chinenye Udo Gabriel of Nigeria secured first, second and third positions in the heat in which Dutee also ran in. Incidentally all the three were taller than Dutee and hence the Odisha athlete failed to match their strides.
It should be stated here that the first three runners in each heat and next three fastest runners qualified for the semifinal round.
