Early warning dissemination system must be operational from Oct 29: SRC

Bhubaneswar: The Special Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi Saturday issued instructions to ensure that the Early Warning Dissemination System (EWDS) being implemented in six coastal districts and at the state headquarters to be fully commissioned and operational from October 29.

The deadline was set during a high-level meeting held recently. The EWDS is being implemented under the National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project. A team led by Deputy Relief Commissioner Pravat Ranjan Mohapatra has been formed to monitor the progress of the work and facilitate smooth implementation of the project within the timeframe.

The District Project Officer (DPO) of Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) in these districts will visit the sites and facilitate the smooth conduct of the Operational Acceptance Test (OAT).

The DPO will try to resolve all local problems in coordination with BDO, Nodal Officer, District Emergency Officer, Additional District Magistrate, etc.

Moreover, the Additional District Magistrate has been directed to monitor the entire process.
