Earthquake hits northeastern state of Meghalaya

Guwahati: An earthquake of 4.2 magnitude Sunday struck the West Khasi Hills Meghalaya around 7:53 pm. The depth of the earthquake was 10 km.

The effect of the quake was even felt in the neighbouring state, Assam’s capital city Guwahati city.

No incident of casualty or damage to property has been reported as a result of the quake till now.

Sharing information via Twitter, the National Centre for Seismology wrote, “Earthquake of Magnitude:4.2, Occurred on 16-07-2023, 19:53:34 IST, Lat: 25.62 & Long: 91.36, Depth: 10 Km, Location: West Khasi Hills, Meghalaya, India.”

The citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake also issued a report confirming the magnitude to be 4.2.
