Shanghai: India’s Rohan Bopanna and his partner Denis Shapovalov entered the pre-quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters tennis tournament doubles event with a straight-set win over Russian pair of Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev here Tuesday. The Indo-Canadian pair notched up a 6-1, 6-4 win over Khachanov and Rublev in the opening round.
Rohan Bopanna and Denis Shapovalov will now face the winner of the match between the pair of Borna Coric of Crotia and Runhao Hua of China and Polish-Brazilian combination of Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo.
Rohan Bopanna and Denis Shapovalov dominated the match right from the start never giving the Russian duo an opportunity of coming back into the game. The Indo-Canadian pair broke their opponents’ serves thrice in the first set to wrap it up in just 28 minutes.
Even though Khachanov and Rublev fought better in the second set, they were always playing the chasing game. They failed to create any break chances and were duly broken in the ninth game. Bopanna then served out the match quite comfortably.
