Bhubaneswar: The first phase of polling concluded yesterday and the parties claimed a good show. Friday April 12 the Chief Election Officer (CEO) Surendra Kumar informed that the total turnout in the first phase of elections came to 74 percent precisely.
‘’This time participation of Women percentage was more in comparison to men” he added.
He informed that male voters stood at 73.09% while female voters were marginally ahead at 74.43%.
The highest turnout was recorded in Nabarangpur which is 78.89%. Kalahandi recorded 75.82%, Koraput voting turnout was recorded 74.77%.
Meanwhile, Kotpad block has registered highest voting percentage of 86.83% and the lowest record went to Berhampur Assembly constituency at 56.34%.
Polling did not go cent percent as planned and the CEO confirmed the same stating that in one booth miscreants created trouble by smashing an EVM machine on the ground whereas in other area negligence of duty by the Presiding Officer has been reported.”
CEO has urged ECI for re-polling in two booths- one in Malkangiri and the other in Berhampur.
In the first phase, polls were held for four Lok Sabha and 28 assembly seats.
Counting of votes will happen on 23 May following which the results will be declared.
