ECoR register consecutive victories

Cuttack, July 8: East Coast Railway (ECoR) registered their second victory in a row beating Sports Hostel 3-1 in a group league encounter of the FAO Women’s League at the Bidanasi Ground here Wednesday.
In spite of falling behind to a fourth minute strike by Jabamani Tudu, the Rail women hit back in style. Sangita Patra restored parity for ECoR in the 14th minute and then two quick strikes by Subhaprabha Rout and Jhili Munda sealed the issue for the Rail eves.
In another match, Sunrise Club and Chand Club played out a drab goalless draw.
Thursday’s matches: Orissa Police vs Sunshine Club; Mangala Club vs Radhagobinda Club
Kiran Manisha moves up
It was a mixed day in office for Orissa players as WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty won her eighth round match, while two others lost to their respective opponents in the 42nd National Women’s Challenger chess tournament at Mumbai, Wednesday.
Kiran Manisha trounced K Priyanka of Tamil Nadu to advance into the joint third position with 5.5 points.
However WCM Saina Salonika was outwitted by Swami Ghate of LIC and WFM Rutumbara Bidhar was checkmated by Pratyusha Bodda of Andhra Pradesh. Saina slipped to the joint fifth spot with five points, while Rutuparna slid to the joint sixth spot with 4.5 points.
Kaushik visits Panposh
Hockey India central zone manager and former Indian coach Maharaj Krishan Kaushik visited Panposh Sports Hostel in Rourkela, Wednesday. Kaushik is on a visit to the Steel City to impart modern training to the hockey players of Sundargarh district. He trained the players for an hour and guided the coaches as well at the Panposh ground.
