Cuttack, July 6: East Coast Railway (ECoR) and Sports Hostel scripted easy wins against their respective opponents in different matches of the FAO Women’s League at the Bidanasi Ground here Monday.
In the first match, ECoR spanked Sunrise Club 3-0. Sangita Patra opened the account in the 17th minute with a brilliant free-kick. Lochan Munda doubled the lead in the 21st minute by guiding a pass from the right into the opposition goal. Supriya Routray got the third in the 39th minute to complete the rout.
In the second match, Sports Hostel rode on a brace by Jabamani Tudu to blank Chand Club 2-0.

Contrasting fortunes
WCM Saina Salonika and WFM Rutumbara Bidhar registered convincing victories, while WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty suffered a humiliating defeat in the sixth round of the 42nd National Women’s Challenger chess tournament at Mumbai, Monday.
Saina Salonika prevailed over P Bala Kannamma of Tamil Nadu. She is currently tied in joint fourth position with 17 others on four points. Kiran Manisha had a bad day as she lost to J Saranya of Tamil Nadu. Rutumbara had an improved show as she checkmated D Chetana of Telangana. She is now sharing the joint fifth spot with 3.5 points.
Seeds sail through
Sccond seed K Bhargavi and third seed Anaam Almas of Orissa earned facile victories over their respective opponents in the girls’ U-16 singles event to advance into the pre-quarters of the AITA-OTA Talent Series tennis tournament at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Monday.
Bhargavi made mincemeat of state mate Sulagna Tripathy 6-0, 6-1, while Anaam swept aside Saai Pranjyan Padhi 6-1, 6-0. Ameek Kiran Batth also entered the next round with a double bagel against Aashra Patel 6-0, 6-0.
