Berhampur: The district administration here has declared a Friday as a holiday for schools and anganwadi centres as incessant rains for the last couple of days has created a lot of woes for the students
The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also predicted that heavy rains will continue to lash the district Friday also. The announcement was made by the Ganjam District Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange. However, teachers were seen attending their respective institutions.
When contacted, district education officer (DEO) Sanatan Panda said the teachers have been asked to be present at schools. In case of the climate changing for the worse, the teachers would be provided shelter within the school premises itself.
The low pressure-induced torrential rain that has been pounding the district since Thursday has inundated several low lying areas with people struggling to cope with the flood-like situation.
