Berhampur: Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahy’s car was allegedly intercepted by BJD workers near Lanjipalli overbridge in Ganjam district while the legislator was on his way to attend a programme at Kanishi Balaji Vidyapeeth, said a source Friday.
Later a scuffle broke out between the BJD workers and supporters of Panigrahy. Some BJD supporters shouted slogans and hurled eggs at his vehicle.
Police apprehended many individuals from the spot to ease the situation.
Earlier, Panigrahy had said that if anything happened to him during his visit to Ganjam district, the government should be held responsible.

“I have the right to visit my constituency as an elected representative. The protest is very unfortunate. I have lost faith on the administration as the concerned officials did nothing to resolve the issue while I remained stuck at the spot,” Panigrahy said.
BJD workers had earlier vowed to deny Panigrahy’s entry to the district. They had stated that he was involved in chit fund scam and had duped many youths on pretext of providing them with jobs.
