Bhanjanagar: As many as eight houses of four families were gutted in a massive fire that broke out at Kharaguda village under Bhanjanagar police limits of Ganjam district late Friday night.
Goods and furniture worth lakh of rupees were gutted in the blaze, said locals even though an official estimation of damage caused by the fire is yet to be done.
The actual reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.
The houses belonged to Gangadhar Nayak, Sugrib Nayak, Bali Nayak and Shaila Nayak of Kharaguda village.
Fire services personnel rushed to the spot to douse the flames after being informed about the incident by the locals. That said, eight of the houses had already been gutted by the time the rescue personnel could reach the spot.
Sarpanch Krushna Swain reached the spot and pacified the families.
