Eldest son of late sculptor Raghunath Mohapatra succumbs to Covid-19 related complications

Bhubaneswar: Jashobant Mohapatra, the eldest son of Padma Vibhushan awardee and late sculptor Raghunath Mohaptra succumbed to Covid-19 related complications Thursday, while undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here, a source said.

Jashobant died at the age of 52 years. He was the eldest sibling of former Ranji Trophy player and captain of the Odisha cricket team Prashant Mohapatra who had succumbed to Covid-19 Wednesday morning.

Raghunath’s eldest son had been put on ventilator support and his health condition worsened after around 1.00pm Wednesday. A special team of doctors had been constantly monitoring his health condition and treating him at the hospital. However, he did not respond to the treatment since last night leading to his untimely death, AIIMS superintendent Sachidananda Mohanty said.

Notably, the erstwhile Rajya Sabha MP Raghunath had earlier succumbed to Covid-19 at the age of 78, while undergoing treatment at the AIIMS May 9. He had been admitted to AIIMS April 22.
