Angul: In a tragic incident, an elderly couple was found dead inside a room Friday morning at their own residence in Angul district. The deceased were residents of Sana Joroda village under Karnapur panchayat in the district. They were identified as Dukhabandhu Sahu and his wife Panchali.

Family members of the couple said they suspected something amiss when the duo did not wake up in the morning and open the door. Foul odour was also coming out of the room. They broke opened the door to find the couple dead.
Later, family members of the deceased reported the matter to the Bikrampur police station. On being informed, a police team rushed to spot. A case of unnatural death has been registered in this connection and a probe has been launched to ascertain the exact cause which led to couple breathing their last. Bodies of the deceased couple were sent to a nearby hospital for post-mortem.
Asphyxiation under the impact of smoke caused due to a short circuit in the fan could be a probable reason for the death, a police official suspected.
