Berhampur: An elderly scooter rider was crushed under the wheels of an over-speeding truck at Aska Road Police Colony Square on National Highway-59 passing through this town, Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Y Mohan Rao, 62, a resident of Panbika Sahi near Bhapur Bazaar under Town police limits here. The body was identified by his son Y Santosh Kumar Rao.
On being informed, traffic police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem and registered a case in this connection. Preliminary inquiries suggested that Rao died due to negligence and rash driving of the truck driver.
Police said Rao was on his way towards Fastgate area when a truck coming from the opposite direction hit his scooter at Aska Road Police Colony Square on the highway. After Rao was thrown off his scooter on the road, the truck ran over his head killing him on the spot, police added.
