Elderly man killed over suspicion of sorcery in Sundargarh

Bonai: The body of a 65-year-old man with his throat slit was recovered from his house at Kuliposh village under Lahunipada police limits in Bonai area of Sundargarh district Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Khairu Nayak alias Niladri, a resident of the same locality.

According to villagers, a person who went to Nayak for traditional healing this morning spotted Nayak lying in a pool of blood and alerted the villagers, who in turn informed the police.

Lahunipada police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for postmortem.

According to locals, Nayak was involved in traditional healing. While the exact cause behind the death of the person is yet to be ascertained, locals suspect that the victim might have been murdered on suspicion of practicing sorcery.

It may be mentioned here that murder and torture over alleged sorcery is nothing new in tribal dominated districts of the state. A similar incident came to fore recently in Baripada October 8 where a couple was suspected to be murdered over the alleged practice of sorcery.
