Ghatagaon: Superstitious belief took yet another life in Odisha when an elderly woman was hacked to death Wednesday night. The incident took place at Bholbeda village under Ghatagaon police limits in Keonjhar district. The deceased has been identified as Kuni Munda.
Some neighbours spotted the door of Kuni’s house open Thursday morning. Sensing something amiss they peeped into the house only to see Kuni’s body lying in a pool of blood. They immediately informed the police.
Later, personnel from Ghatagaon police station along with a forensic team reached the spot. They seized the body and sent it for post-mortem.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the elderly woman was hacked to death by miscreants in her sleep. It was suspected that Kuni practiced sorcery which may have led to her death, said the police. A probe has been launched to find out the exact cause behind Kuni’s brutal killing, informed police.
Notably, a man had sacrificed his six-year-old daughter for sorcery at Taupadar village under Patangi police limits in Koraput district November 21. The man however, was arrested November 30. These incidents however, demonstrate how parts of rural Odisha still reel under superstitious beliefs and fall prey to those.
