Phulbani: A 55-year-old woman was found dead at Sainipada Sahi here in Kandhamal district Friday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Rangabati Behera, wife of Narayan Behera of the village.
On being informed, Phulbani town police reached the spot and sent the body to Kandhamal district headquarters hospital (DHH) for autopsy.
Preliminary investigations suggested that Rangabati had been killed by someone as her body was found hanging from a custard apple tree with her feet touching the ground, 15 metres away from her house.
Relatives of the deceased suspected that it could be a planned murder.
Sources said, Rangabati’s younger son was in relationship with a girl of Ganjuguda under Sadar police limits in the district. However, the girl’s family members were not opposed to the relationship and had warned the boy to stay away from the girl. However, the two continued to see each other despite warnings.
Since the girl’s family has been opposing their relationship, they might have killed Rangabati to take revenge, family members suspected.
Police investigations are under way, police said adding the exact reason of the death will be known after the arrival of post-mortem report.
