Electioneering gathers momentum ahead of Pipili by-poll

Pipili: With by-poll for Pipili Assembly constituency drawing close, all three major political parties of Odisha – BJD, BJP and Congress – have intensified campaigning in the seat known to be a BJD bastion.

The parties are primarily focusing on Pipili and Delanga blocks, a source said while adding that political heavyweights are touring the blocks to garner support for their candidates.

Several senior leaders of BJD were seen moving door-to-door to sway voters in favour of their candidate Rudrapratap Maharathy – son of late Pipili MLA Pradeep Maharathy.

School and Mass Education Minister Samir Dash, MLA Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak Saturday conducted rallies at Rupadeipur panchayat appealing voters to retain the party’s bastion and vote for Rudrapratap. Local BJD leaders also campaigned in favour of Rudrapratap in Teisipur panchayat, Nuagodi and Podanga areas.

Meanwhile, the central observer of Congress party A Chellakumar, secretary Rudra Raju, MLA Chiranjibi Biswal and former minister Ganeswar Behera Saturday took out processions and campaigned for their candidate Biswakeshan Harichandan Mohapatra. They addressed voters at a number of meetings held in Kothabada, Kalyanpur, Gualipada, Dhanakera and Abhayamukhi panchayats of Delanga block.

BJP stalwarts also organised processions and meetings in several villages under Pipili and Delanga blocks and appealed voters to vote for BJP candidate Ashrit Pattanayak.
