Jharsuguda/Cuttack: In yet another incident of man-animal conflict, a woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Bhoimunda village under Brajrajnagar block in Jharsuguda district Monday.
According to sources, the pachyderm had sneaked into the village this morning and attacked the victim who came face to face with the jumbo.
On being informed, a team of forest officials and police reached the spot for investigation.
Similarly, a woman died in tusker attack at Khalibahal village of Kandarasinha panchayat under Dihadola forest section of Mahabiroda range in Dhenkanal Forest Division December 10.
The deceased was identified as Nirupama Biswal, wife of Bhagawam Biswal who owns an ice-cream factory in the locality.
According to sources, the woman came face to face with the tusker while returning from a morning walk at 5.45 am. The tusker grabbed her with its trunk and battered her against a tree. She died on the spot.
In yet another incident reported from Cuttack, panic gripped denizens of sector eight and nine of Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) after an elephant strayed into the locality today morning.
After locals who spotted the large mammal informed forest department, a team of forest personnel and police reached the spot and launched an operation to drive away the elephant, sources said.
“The elephant is moving in the forest near Prachi hospital. It movement is being constantly monitored by our staffs,” informed a senior forest official.
“We have advised people to stay indoors and take alternate roads to commute,” he added.
Meanwhile, vehicular movement has been restricted in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
