Elephant calf rescued

Chhendipada: Forest officials Friday rescued an elephant calf from Dangapal village under Chhendipada forest area in Angul district that was wandering alone after being separated from its herd.

After getting separated from its herd, the pachyderm was seen wandering around in Nuagaon, Kanaloi, Dangapal, Bhatpal and Telisahi village areas. It had become very weak after being without food for some days.

After getting information from locals, Chhendipada forest officer Durga Charan Sahu, Angul DFO V Karthik along with other forest officials rescued the animal and took it to Angul forest rangers’ training college.

Later, district veterinary department head Pradip Kumar Singh checked on the health condition of the calf. The blood samples of the pachyderm was collected and sent for examination.

“Now, it has become weak. As soon as its health improves, we will rehabilitate it,” said Durga Charan Sahu.
