Jhumpura: After a brief hiatus, elephants unleashed a reign of terror in Bamebari forest section in Keonjhar district. People in Patuakudar, Kaliapal, Goduatopa, Nedigotha, Nunagadia, Bamandiha, Naibuga, Kasia and Sanakalimati villages were panicked and were spending sleepless nights for the last few days.
An elephant separated from its herd strayed into Patuakudar and damaged a couple of houses apart from feeding on paddy and rice stocks. The pachyderms have reportedly damaged several houses in the area. Poor tribals have been living amid fear of attack from elephants.
They demanded immediate steps for assessment of the crop damage. Bamebari forester Jatindra sahu said as the elephant is separated from its herd it is difficult to keep track of it. A report on damage is being prepared, he added.
