BHUBANESWAR: Eminent Odia painter and artist Panchanan Samal was felicitated by Ethnic Artist Society Wednesday afternoon at the concluding day of National cartoon workshop and Festival at Assam’s Goalpara.
The programme was ingaurated Sunday by Samal where more than 45 artists participated as well as learned from Samal. Interacting with Orissa Post, Samal said, “I am truly honoured. I feel much more responsible as an artist now. Every good composition is above all a work of abstraction. Colour incites an intellectual vibration. Colour skins an influence still unknown but real, which acts on every part of the human body.”
“However, the comic or cartoon workshop and fest has improved my abilities as a painter. I am certainly impressed by the multi-dimensional creativity of all the artistes,” he added.
Guwahati’s famous cartoon painter Pradeep Kuma Nath encouraged artistes to recreate comic characters via canvas. These works would take off stress from everyone’s life. He also insisted that aspirants should take inspiration from Samal’s diverse art works as well as must understand what it takes to draw great cartoons. Muvin Rava, Dilip Rava,Kausik Kalti were some of the eminent painters who were were present at the cartoon fest.
Muvin Rava stressed on artistes learning more about cartoon artistry so that the real face of society can be shown. People should understand the pain behind the sarcasms.
Sarfuddin Ahmed’s cartoon titled ‘West Bengal’ got a rousing response at the fest. Around 150 cartoons were exhibited and more than 100 aspirants learned the craft from the masters.
