Berhampur: Police Saturday arrested an engineering student for fraudulently transferring money from the bank accounts of a woman to his own account here in Ganjam district.
The accused has been identified as Sunil Tripathy.
As per police reports, Tripathy is studying at an engineering college in Cuttack. He is a resident of Arabinda Nagar under Baidyanathpur police limits.
Acting on the complaint lodged by the victim December 15 last year, Berhampur Town Police launched an investigation into the matter. As per the FIR lodged, the victim alleged that cash was withdrawn from her bank accounts illegally.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Tripathy with the help of the victim’s relative obtained the woman’s ATM card details and later transferred nearly Rs 68,000 to his Paytm account.
The accused pleaded guilty and was forwarded to court. Further investigation into the case is underway, Berhampur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shantanu Das said.
