Enrique named new Spanish boss

Luis Enrique

Madrid: Former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique was appointed Monday as the new Spanish coach on a two-year deal after interim coach Fernando Hierro parted ways following Spain’s exit from World Cup in the round of 16. Hierro took over the reins after Julen Lopetegui was sacked two days before the World Cup.

“Luis Enrique’s appointment as coach for the next two years was approved unanimously,” Spanish football federation president Luis Rubiales, told reporters.

47-year-old Jose Francisco Molina was appointed as the new sporting director and will replace Fernando Hierro who previously held this position. Molina was the coach of the Atletico de Kolkata team in their 2016 title winning campaign in the Indian Super League.

Enrique was Barcelona coach for three years from May 2014, leading the Catalan giants to the treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League titles in his first campaign at the helm.
