Balsore: In a bid to reduce traffic snarls and road accidents, District Collector K Sudarshan Chakravarthy banned entry of heavy vehicles in busy roads of the city under Article 115 of the Odisha Motor Vehicle Rules 93 during peak hours.
Addressing a press conference, K Sudarshan Chakravarthy said, under new rules, heavy vehicles and goods carrier will not be permitted on main roads between 8 am and 10 pm in the city. They will have to remain stationary during those hours.
He further said that we have imposed the ban order on a pilot basis for one month i.e. from October 1 to October 30.
The new rules will be implemented on all main roads including ITI square to Fakir Mohan Bus Stand Square, Police Line Square, Fakir Mohan College Road, Town Police Station Square, Chiddiapol Road, District Headquarter Hospital Road, Station Road, ADM School Road and Technology School Square.
In the past, such notifications banning the entry of heavy vehicles during peak hours were issued, but the rules were never enforced properly.
Sources said trucks, trailers, construction vehicles, besides vehicles transporting sand and bricks, heavy industries vehicles will face restrictions under the new rule.
The RTO issued a notification in this regard mentioning the restriction will be enforced strictly for one month. If required, restrictions will be extended for the heavy vehicles after the completion of one month.
The administration urged the owners of heavy vehicles to cooperate with the administration to enforce the rules successfully.
