Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police has summoned Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik and his son Navjyoti Patnaik in connection with a fraud involving `130 crore.
The EOW has directed the father-son duo to be present at its New Delhi office Friday. According to sources, New Friends Colony police station has registered a case, on the basis of a complaint filed by Kamaljeet Singh Ahluwalia November 14, 2011. The case was later referred to the EOW.
Investor Ahluwalia, was allegedly introduced by Niranjan Patnaik to directors of Vavasi Telegence Pvt. Ltd company. Ahluwalia has alleged that he was duped of `130 crore in a fraud committed by the directors. During investigations, the EOW found Niranjan, who was also a director of the company, introduced Ahluwalia to accused Farid Ariffuddin and Gargi Farid. According to sources, the accused produced several forged letters purportedly issued by the governments of China, Mongolia, Cambodia and Romania in connection with SCDMA-based Telecom Network to win Ahluwalia’s trust.
Subsequently, Ahluwalia who invested `31.79 crore in the company was made its director. The firm issued a cheque of `130 crore as security amount to Ahulwalia in 2008. However, the cheque bounced due to insufficient funds.
During a probe, the firm informed EOW that Navjyoti had misappropriated `6 crore out of the `31.79 crore invested by Ahulwalia.
Talking to reporters late Thursday, Patnaik denied having received any summons from the EOW.
