Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the state Crime Branch will investigate into the seizure of Rs 10.90 crore from a car in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district as the four-wheeler was on its way to Agra from Cuttack, Director General of Police (DGP) Rajendra Prasad Sharma said Wednesday.

“Chhattisgarh Police has informed us that the vehicle with four persons, all residents of Agra, was transporting the cash from Cuttack. So, the EOW has been instructed to investigate the matter and ascertain the source of money and its purpose of its transportation,” Sharma said, adding that the Odisha Police is in constant touch with its Chhattisgarh counterpart.

According to sources, Chhattisgarh Police intercepted the car during a routine check in Mahasamund district Tuesday and found Rs 10.90 crore (in Rs 2,000, Rs 500, Rs 200 and Rs 100 denominations) underneath the vehicle’s rear seat. Later, police detained the four occupants of the car after they failed to come up with satisfactory accounts of the cash.
