Balasore: Police produced the ITR espionage accused in court as his four days remand period came to an end, Tuesday. Baburam Dey, the accused was again remanded to police custody after his bail plea was rejected.
Dey, a technical officer in the Telemetry department of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur under Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was arrested in February after he was found sharing sensitive defence-related data after being honey-trapped by a Pakistani woman ‘spy’. He was produced in the court of judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) in Balasore and was remanded to police custody after his bail plea was rejected.
Police had taken Dey on remand for four days to interrogate him and gather more information. During the remand period, officials of Andhra Pradesh’s intelligence wing and Indian Air Force (IAF) also joined the interrogation. Sources said that the accused has provided vital information regarding the details that have been passed on to the Pakistani ‘spy’. Police said that if necessary, Dey will again be taken on remand for further interrogation.
