Jakarta: The Indian women’s volleyball team ended its campaign with a 3-0 routing of Hong Kong in a classification match at the 18th Asian Games here Wednesday. Already out of competition, the India women gave a good account of themselves as they scored 25-18, 25-16, 25-13 win to outclass Hong Kong in their final match.

India beat Indonesia

Already out of reckoning, Indian men’s handball team ended its campaign on a positive note, defeating Indonesia in a group III main round match. India were 16-13 ahead after the first period and scored 21-10 in the second period to seal the contest.

Tokas loses

India’s Megha Tokas went down without a fight to Indonesia’s Shifa Khasani Najmu in women’s 63 kg quarterfinal of Kurash event. The 20-year-old Indian lost 0-3 to Najmu in a lop-sided contest.

3 walkers disqualify

Khushbir Kaur failed to match up to her last edition’s silver winning show by finishing fourth while three of her compatriots were disqualified in a disappointing show by India’s 20km race walkers. Khushbir had to be content with a fourth-place finish with a time of 1 hour 35 minutes and 24 seconds. The other Indian in the fray in the women’s 20km race walk, Baby Soumya was disqualified after receiving her third warning for loss of contact after the 14km mark. In the men’s 20km race walk event also, both national record holder K T Irfan and Manish Rawat were disqualified in similar situations as Soumya.

Vijay, Kalpana eliminated

Indian judokas Vijay Kumar Yadav and Kalpana Devi Thoudam were knocked out of the Asian Games after losing their respective bouts in the men’s and women’s elimination rounds. Vijay lost 0-10 to Uzbekistan’s Urozboev Diyorbek in the men’s 60kg elimination round, while Kalpana lost to Uzbekistan’s Gulnoza Ziyaeva in the women’s 52kg elimination round.
