Baripada: Mayurbhanj superintendent of police Parmar Smit Parshottamdas Friday suspended former officer in charge of Badampahad police station Sashadhara Sethi for framing a man and his son in a murder case.
Sethi was posted at Baisinga police station after being transferred from Badampahad.
According to a source, Raimani, a resident of Purunapani village under Badampahad police limits had left home for Cuttack to do some jobs, without informing her family members. Her husband Mangal Naik and son Sanjay Naik launched a frantic search for her but could not trace her anywhere.
Meanwhile, a decomposed charred body of a woman was recovered from Pahadpur jungle under Badampahad police limits April 27. During investigation, Raimani’s relatives identified the body as hers. On the basis of their complaint, police arrested her husband Sanjay and father-in-law Mangal. A case was registered (Case No-18/19) after postmortem.
However, Raimani, who was not aware of the entire episode that happened in her absence, returned to her home last week taking everyone in her village by surprise. By this time, her husband and father-in-law had spent two and half months of imprisonment.
Seeing her alive, the villagers gave an earful to the police for their carelessness and putting two innocent persons behind bars.
On the other hand, the police took Raimani to a secret place and after interrogation she was produced at Rairangpur SDJM court Saturday. After getting her statement recorded, she was let go with her family members.
While Raimani’s episode is solved, the case of the decomposed charred body recovered from Pahadpur jungle April 27 has cropped up, putting the cops in the dock.
