Bhubaneswar: A marine engineer was found dead Thursday at the office of a private event management company in Budhha Nagar under Laxmisagar police limits here.
He was allegedly strangled to death by his ex-girlfriend with the help of her boyfriend.
The deceased, Baijayant Prasad Mohanty of Raghunathpur in Jagatsinghpur district, had been staying in the Sankarpur area of Cuttack with his family.
Baijayant was in a relationship with the accused, Shushree Shasmita Mohanty, who also belongs to his village. As he was working in a shipping company he had to spend most of the time outside.
Meanwhile, Sasmita and the co-accused, Kumar Chandan Pati of Puri, started an event management company named Billion Dreams Entertainment Company Private Limited at a rented house in Budhha Nagar here.
Chandan was the MD of the company and Sasmita a director. The duo soon started a relationship and Sasmita broke up with Baijayant a year ago.
Police said after coming to know about Sasmita’s relationship with Chandan, Baijayanta requested Sasmita to continue the relationship with him which she refused.
According to Baijayant’s father, at around 9 am Wednesday, he left home saying that he was going to Bhubaneswar in connection with a physical fitness test at Kolkata Thursday. His cell phone was switched off after 12 am Wednesday.
Later, they were informed by Laxmisagar police that he met with an accident in the Capital. On arriving here they were shocked to find him dead at the office.
According to the police, Sasmita called Baijayant to her office Wednesday afternoon.
The discussion between the three turned violent and an enraged Sasmita and Chandan strangled him with a towel. The two later surrendered before the police at 7pm.
The police and a forensic team reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. Police produced the duo in court after registering a case.
