Bhubaneswar: For Christmas and New Year celebrations, the state government has exempted excise duty on 5,058 bulk liters of sacramental wine for use in religious purposes for the year 2019-20.
As per a notification issued by the Excise department, excise duty on 600 bulk liters (BL) of sacramental wine has been exempted for Sambalpur Catholic Diocese, 380 BL for Balasore Catholic Diocese, 1,080 BL for Bhubaneswar Catholic Diocese, 1,000 BL for Berhampur Catholic Diocese and 1,998 BL for Rourkela Catholic Diocese.
The government had exempted the excise duty on the sacramental wine last year too, for the use of the Catholic Dioceses.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 96 of the Odisha Excise Act, 2008 the state government do hereby exempt the payment of excise duty on the sacramental wine of 5,058 bulk liters to be imported by the six diocese of the state for religious purposes during the year 2019-20 to the extent mentioned against each from M/s Vinicola (P) Ltd., Margaon, Goa, India subject to submission of Utilization Certificate for the sacramental wine allowed during 2018-19,” read the notification.
