BHUBANESWAR: A cultural event Sangam was organised by Art Vision at its 14th annual festival at Rabindra Mandap here Saturday.
Former Vice Chancellor of Sambalpur University Priyambada Mohanty Hejmadi was the chief guest. He inaugurated the event by lighting the traditional lamp in the presence of Delhi Public School Principal Preeti Rai Chand.
The festival was conceived as an offering of new, exclusive choreographic compositions in two different dance styles to honour gurus of these compositions.
The event commenced with an Odissi dance Refugee presented by the students of Art Vision. The dance was choreographed by Ileana Citaristi and the music was composed by Laxmikanta Palit.
Refugee is an Odissi dance which attempts to bridge the gap between the world of artistic expression and the reality of today’s world.
The concluding performance of the evening was a Bharatnatyam dance Arthashringara presented by the Sarforjiraje Bhosale Centre from Mumbai. The dance was choreographed by Sandhya Purecha. The dance visualised all the seasons of a year.
Purecha told Oissa POST, “It’s an honour to perform here. Odisha is rich in art and culture and Odissi is popular all over the world. I feel Lord Jagnnath blessing me whenever I perform here.”
“The two styles of dance come together on the same platform every year to showcase recent works. While Odissi is a constant factor, other classical styles changes every year,” said organiser Ileana Citaristi.
