Berhampur: An expectant mother had to be carried for a kilometre on cot to reach an ambulance due to absence of a motorable road to the village at Ganiapali under Jagannathprasad block in Ganjam district late Sunday night.
According to reports, family members of a pregnant woman called an 102 ambulance after a woman complained of labour pain.
However, the vehicle could not reach the village and halted around one kilometre away at Balimela village, due to the bad road connectivity.
Left with no option, kin of the pregnant woman, with the help of a few villagers placed her on a cot and carried her for one km to reach the ambulance.
From there, she was taken to Bhanjanagar sub-divisional hospital where she reportedly delivered twins. The health condition of both the babies and mother is stated to be stable now.
