Expectant mother carried on cot

Keonjhar: Family members of a pregnant woman were forced to carry her on a cot in the absence of ambulance services in the remote area of Keonjhar district, Wednesday.

The woman delivered a healthy baby and the condition of both the mother and the newborn was normal during the filing of this report. They are now undergoing treatment in a hospital, reports said.

According to sources, the woman of Chhadadihi village under Banspal block in the district underwent labour pain Tuesday. Family members with the help of a local ASHA worker called for an ambulance to ferry her to a hospital.

However, due to lack of a motorable road to their village, the ambulance failed to reach her. The ambulance came to the village and waited for the woman, a few kilometers away from the village.

With no option left, family members carried the expectant mother on a cot and walked all the way to the ambulance from where she was taken to the local hospital.

“The woman delivered a baby boy after being admitted to hospital. Condition of the woman and her child is stable now,” hospital authority said.
