Odagaon: Four relatives of a deceased person were rendered critical following an explosion in the funeral fire while they were burning the body Friday evening.
The incident was reported from Manikapatna village under Odagaon police limits in Nayagarh district. Two of the injured were admitted to Nayagarh district headquarters hospital (DHH) while two were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for better treatment as their condition worsened. They were Karthik Nayak and Ganeswar Nayak of the same village.
According to sources, Sridhar Nayak died of some ailment Thursday. Family members and relatives gathered to perform the last rites of the body. Later, they took the body and burnt it in the village funeral ground.
Meanwhile, a sudden explosion over unknown reasons took place in the funeral fire, critically injuring four persons. Locals said a relative threw a kerosene jar on the funeral fire that led to the explosion.
