Explosive seized from Alleppey-Dhanbad Express in Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: Security forces recovered a haul of explosives from Alleppey-Dhanbad Express at Jharsuguda railway station here Friday morning. The explosives in form of seven bombs connected together with a battery were found from one of the compartments of the train. A major mishap was averted due to alertness of some passengers who raised an alarm and the bombs were detected before they could explode.

According to sources some passengers first noticed something burning under a seat in the AC compartment. It was at about 3.45am in the morning. They raised an alarm following which the on duty GRP Havildar Firoz Khan rushed to the spot. He found a burning shoe. He immediately doused the flame with his boot. After that he spotted a bag containing the suspected materials.

The bag contained seven bombs connected with a battery.

The bomb squad was pressed into service and the bombs were diffused. A probe has also been initiated into the matter. No arrests have been made in this connection so far.

In a similar incident at Brajarajnagar railway station April 20 an RPF personnel had retrieved six bundles of detonators from Howarh-Pune Azad Hind Express.
