Explosives seizure: Main accused held

Basta (Balasore): The Kolkata Special Task Force (STF) Monday arrested explosive dealer Sukanta Sahu from Basta in Balasore district in connection with the seizure of 10 quintal of explosives in Kolkata March 9.

The West Bengal police will take Sahu in transit remand, sources said. Earlier, Indrajit Bhui, 25, and Padmolochon Dey, 31, also from Basta, were arrested after 27 gunny bags containing 1,000 kg of explosives (potassium nitrate) were recovered from their truck near Tala Bridge under Chitpur police station limits in North Kolkata.

Based on their confession, the STF arrested Sahu while a further probe is on.

Kolkata police based on reliable inputs had intercepted a Tata – 407 that was carrying the explosives.

An investigation revealed that the vehicle was en route to North 24 Parganas district from Odisha. Following this, the West Bengal STF alerted the matter to the Odisha police and launched a probe into the matter.

Owner of the vehicle, Tapan Kumar Mahapatra of Rupsa in Balasore district, had filed a complaint at the local police station stating that his truck was missing.
