Bhubaneswar: Silk India, an exhibition-cum-sale of silk products organised by Hastashilpi at The New Marrion here in the city entered its last day Sunday.
With more than 60 stalls, the expo was inaugurated by Odia movie actress Niharika Das and has diverse collection of silk sarees and other silk products on display, tantalizing prospective buyers. The eighth edition of the expo despite in its second week is not ready to slow down and going only stronger.
Interacting with Orissa POST, manager of Silk India association Satish Kumar said, “For the very first time, we have introduced western wear, so this time it’s not only sarees on sale.”
Varieties of silk namely Matka silk, Tasar silk, light weight Kota silk and items such as designer suits, linen clothing, Chickan work materials and many more have grabbed the eyeballs.
With sarees ranging from Rs 1,200 to even Rs 1,20,000 and salwar suits, kurtis and other such ethnic wears starting from Rs 500 to Rs 2,500, the expo caters to every budget.
Rashmi Tak, a stall manager from Andhra Pradesh, who had her accessory stall installed said, “Our products range from Rs 300 to 15,000.” With dazzling collections of necklaces, bangles, pendants and earrings, Rashmi added that she has sold goods of worth around Rs 1,00,000.
With reversible attires such as skirts, kurtis and, gowns and with sizes from small to XXL, Jaspreet, a stall manager from Punjab who has her stall exhibiting western dresses at the expo said, “The response has been too good this year and I think the business is better compared to last year.”
However, what held the prospective buyers spellbound were the Kanchipuram sarees which are worth Rs 1,20,000 apiece. Ravi, a stall manager from Bangalore who has the finest collections of the sarees on display, said, “One the first day itself I sold one saree.”
A customer Sarika Barik said, “You can buy according to your budget. With this wide price range you don’t need to burn a hole in your pocket.”
The expo would end Sunday (September 2) and is open from 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM.
