Bargarh: Police Saturday claimed to have busted the murder mystery of a married woman Jhasmentri alias Nur Sahu (35) of Nileswar village under Sadar police limits here in this district whose mutilated body was recovered from a paddy field October 28.
Preliminary probe revealed the murder was fallout of extramarital affairs. After probe, police arrested the accused Nirakar Sahu (49) alias Nil of Parthala village, lover of the woman.
Acting on a complaint by the deceased’s husband Gangadhar Sahu, police registered a case of murder and produced Nil in court. He was then remanded in Bargarh sub-jail after the court rejected his bail plea.
Bargarh SDPO Suresh Kumar Naik revealed the murder plot before media persons at a press meet held in the town police station.
According to police, Nil had an illicit affair with Nur. This created rift between Nur and her husband Gangadhar. Fed up with her affairs, Gangadhar assaulted and tortured Nur to mend her ways.
This infuriated Nur who insisted Nil to elope with her. She demanded that the two commit suicide, if they could not marry each other as Nil also was a married man. With children of his own, Nil did not want to marry Nur and humiliate himself in the public. However, Nur was adamant to elope with him as Gangadhar was torturing her after learning of the extramarital affairs.
Frustrated with Nur’s repeated insistence, Nil hatched a plan to eliminate her. He called Nur to meet him while her husband Gangadhar had gone to market October 28. Later, he strangled her to death, dumped her body in the paddy field and fled.
Under suspect, police arrested Nil who confessed to the crime during interrogation. Police also seized Nil’s slippers, shirt and pant that he was wearing during the murder, the SDPO Naik said.
Along with the SDPO was Sadar IIC Mamata Nayak during the press meet.
