Facelift plan for City before World Cup Hockey

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) have announced that they would work in tandem to give a facelift to the City in view of the upcoming Men’s World Cup Hockey.

The CRUT is planning to deploy 100 new buses in the City to connect un-serviced destinations. It would also establish two bus depots at Patrapada and Patia for better management of bus services.

According to department officials lesser covered routes like Chakeisiani, Ghatikia, Sikharchandi and Kalinga Vihar are likely to get more services.

The civic bodies have also planned mechanical sweeping along the 80 km route to make the capital cleaner. Letters of authorisation have been issued in this regard.

The City is also expected to be ready for wi-fi services by October when the facility will be available at 300 points across the state.

Streetlights would be checked and roads will be made hoarding and encroachment free. Other plans by the local bodies are a plantation drive and development of medians and ornamentation, boosting street art and mural projects and improving heritage signage.

“Street Art and Mural Project to beautify the city will be undertaken by BMC. The panel for this will be finalised by September 5. STAMP has already proved itself during the Asian Athletics Championship, 2017,” a release from the BMC said Thursday.
