Fake currency notes with Rs 85,000 face value seized in Mayurbhanj; 2 Jharkhand men arrested

Baripada: Police arrested two persons for circulating fake currency in Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district Wednesday night. The cops also seized fake currency notes bearing face value of Rs 85,000.

The arrested persons have been identified as Rakhahari Rana (50) and Rasbihari Rana (45). Both are native of East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand.

The cops were tipped off about the two persons trying to circulate fake currency notes at Balasore Golei here Wednesday night. A team of Baripada town police station immediately rushed to the described spot and nabbed the duo that was trying to escape from the spot after seeing the cops.

Upon a search operation, police seized 100 numbers of counterfeit Rs 500 notes from Rakhahari. Similarly, ten and 300 numbers of Rs 500 and Rs 100 notes respectively were seized from Rasbihari.

Accusing them of circulating fake currency notes and cheating people, police put them under arrest.

Police efforts are on to find out if they have already circulated some fake notes, and if yes, where and how many of them.

A detailed investigation is underway.
