Fake currency racket busted in Berhampur, five arrested

Berhampur: The Twin City Commissionerate Police Sunday arrested five people in connection with a fake currency note printing unit at Nuapada Bazaar Sahi in Berhampur town and seized Rs 4.65 lakh counterfeit notes.

The accused have been identified as Rameswar Moharana (43) of Ganjam, K Ramesh (56) of Berhampur, Pranam Bhoi (19) of Khordha, Dillip Bhoi (23) and Sarat Sahu.

According to police sources, Sarat and Dillip were trying to exchange some fake currency notes at Mahura Bazaar near Tomando. Being tipped off about the incident, the quick action team (QAT) of the Commissionerate Police and Tomando Police reached the spot and nabbed them.

During interrogation, the duo revealed more about the fake currency note printing unit in Berhampur, following which a police team raided the place and arrested three accused.

Besides fake currency notes, police have seized a colour printer, 22 cartridges, 22 paper cutters, nine rubber stamps and five mobile phones from the spot.
