Fake disability certificate: SCS cancels admissions of 19 students

Puri: The authorities of Samanta Chandra Sekhara (SCS) Autonomous College have cancelled the admission of 19 students, who were found to have submitted fake disability certificates for gaining admissions into various streams in Plus III.

According to sources, at least 36 students had submitted fake certificates of disability to get seats in Arts, Commerce and Science streams during the 2018 admission season.

The college authorities had sent the certificates to the Puri Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) for review. Nineteen certificates were found to be fakes as the signatures of the doctors and CDMOs did not match their registration numbers.

The Puri CDMO had submitted a report in this regard August 21. Later, the report was sent to the state higher education department.

The college authorities had alerted the state Higher Education Department in this regard. A meeting of the heads of departments (HODs) and members of the admission committee was also held in this connection August 25.

Acting on the order of the Higher Education Department, the authorities cancelled the provisional admission of the 19 students, said Laxmidhar Mishra, the principal of the college.

The names of 18 students were displayed on the college notice board. However, one student had left the institute after taking transfer certificate from the college, Mishra added.
