Keonjhar: Police detained three persons of a private computer institute in Keonjhar on charge of defrauding students on the promise of jobs.
Some students who had received computer training from Odisha Education and Training filed a complaint at the police station.
In the complaint, it was stated that each student had given Rs 40,000 towards computer training on the promise of jobs of computer training teachers in schools.
The institute started its first batch December 25, 2016 at Karadia branch in Karanjia. The second batch of students was trained at Baniapata.
The institute had taken franchise from All India IT Association, it was stated.
In the complaint, it was stated that Amulya Kumar Mohanty, MD of the institute, Malay Kumar Patra, director, Rabinarayan and Mohanty, accountant had taken Rs 40,000 each from every student but issued receipts of Rs 30,000 each.
When some students took to legal recourse, the institute tried repaying them with cheques October 13 last year but there was shortage of funds in the account of the institute. The cheques could not be realised.
The students claimed that it is a big job racket as over 50 students had been fleeced of money in the area. They demanded a thorough probe into the fraud.
IIC Somnath Jena said that three staff of the institute were detained and being interrogated.
