Mumbai: The life of 59-year-old Ranu Mondal, who once sang in streets and at West Bengal’s Ranaghat Railway Station has changed overnight. After a video of the song ‘Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai’ sung by Ranu went viral, she became a star overnight. But that also led to a number of fake news being circulated about her. Here are some of the fake news items that did the rounds.
The first fake news to make the rounds was Salman Khan presenting Ranu with a house worth Rs 55 lakh and a song to sing in ‘Dabangg 3’. However, members of the ‘Amra Shobai Shoitan Club’ based in Ranaghat termed the news fake.
There was also this rumour of actor-composer Himesh Reshammiya offering Ranu Mondal Rs 6-7 lakh for the song she sang and that she refused to take it. It also transpired that Himesh had forced her to take the money. There has been no official confirmation either by Ranu or Himesh on this issue. So the authenticity of the news is doubtful.
The third rumour which surfaced was that Salman Khan became so emotional after hearing Ranu Mondal sing that he shed tears. However, there are doubts about it. A video of Salman Khan allegedly crying popped up on a FB page belonging to ‘some Ranu Mondal’. The original Ranu Mondal does not have a FB account. The 22 minutes video remains the subject of discussion.
Then there have been reports like Ranu has bought a car worth 15 lakh, of her becoming a part of ‘Bigg Boss’. All of these have turned out to be fake.
Even though Himesh gave Ranu a chance to sing, Salman Khan’s family also had a role to play. Himesh himself has disclosed this in a show. “Salman’s father Salim Uncle once advised me to never let go of any talented person in life. He also told me to help that person to utilise the talent. So I have given Ranu the opportunity to prosper,” Himesh said in a reality show.
