New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Thursday issued an advisory in the wake of severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’, which is expected to hit the coasts of Odisha Thursday morning.
The DGCA informed all airlines and operators that all flights to/from Bhubaneswar from 0001 hrs till 2359 hrs Friday were cancelled in advance to avoid passenger inconvenience and safety of operations.
The regulatory body also said flights to/from Kolkata from 2130 hrs Thursday to 1800 hrs Friday were also cancelled.
Resumption of flights will be with positive clearance from the respective Air Traffic Control, the DGCA said in a statement here.
The IMD bulletin said that the Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Fani’ is very likely to move northeastwards and cross Odisha Coast between Gopalpur and Chandbali, around Puri during May 3 afternoon. The cyclone is being tracked by Doppler Weather Radars Chennai, Vishakhapatnam & Machilipatnam.
The bulletin said that light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over Visakhapatnam and Vizainagaram Districts and isolated heavy to extremely heavy falls over Srikakulam districts on May 2 and with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places May 3.
