Dhenkanal/Nuapada: In two separate incidents, as many as three persons including a farmer were killed after being attacked by elephants in Dhenkanal and Nuapada district Tuesday morning.
In the first instance, two ‘babas’ were crushed to death by a herd of elephants at a riverbank near Sanakhandanala Ashram in Kamakhyanagar area of Dhenkanal district this morning.
The incident occurred while three babas from Kandanal ashram had gone to take bath in a nearby river early Tuesday morning when they came face to face with a herd of elephants that had strayed into the river bed.
While one of them managed to escape, two others were trampled to death by the wild pachyderms. The herd had strayed into the riverbed late Monday night. Around 40 elephants were reportedly spotted near the ashram.
On the other hand, a farmer was trampled to death by 6-7 elephants at Karangabhatta village in Komna area of Nuapada district this morning while he had gone to his farmland. The deceased was identified as Sahadev Parabhuey.
