Saranda/ Atabira: Even as the buzz over the sensational parcel bomb case at Patnagarh in Bolangir district is yet to die down, an explosion of a similar nature Saturday rendered a farmer critical and sparked shock waves at Bhalupatra village under Atabira police limits in Bargarh district.
CH Nagbhushan picked up a carton kept on the compound of his house and tried to figure out what was inside when it exploded. Nagbhushan also has a pesticide shop.
He did so out of curiosity but was rendered critical after the fragments in the bomb pricked his face and body. Family members and neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued him in a critical condition.
They rushed him to VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR). SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamu, SDPO Suresh Kumar Nayak and Atabira police rushed to the spot and started an investigation. A forensic team was pressed into service.
However, they failed to identify the accused or ascertain the reason behind the incident. SDPO Nayak said a probe is on and soon the case will be cracked.
The incident occurred when Nagbhushan after having lunch left for his farmland at 3.30 pm. He noticed the carton on the wall and picked it up. Soon it exploded with a deafening sound. His daughter Srisa said she returned home from school at 2.30 pm and noticed the carton but ignored it and went inside.
